About Us

Flying High Enterprises was started in 1995 by Mike Hickey and Eric Dyrlund and fueled by a passion and obsession for gymnastics and other sports where a “gymnastic” control of movement is required for success.  The company started with a desire to build a climbing wall in the YMCA where they were coaching gymnastics.  This would allow them to continue climbing during the winter months and bring in some money for the gym.  This quickly grew out of hand and soon there were several additions to the wall including a 15’ ceiling route and a bouldering cave.   

After many years of coaching, camps, clinics, and training, Mike and Eric began setting up gymnastics clinics and camps for gymnasts and their coaches.  What they found was a draw and need for coaching info at all levels.  Marketing this new service was going to be different than marketing for a gym that is stationary.  They decided to offer the service to coaches and clubs in their own gyms – the clinics and camps would go to the gymnasts instead of the gymnasts coming to them.  This method of coaching is still working and growing every year.  Currently a stable of coaches is being developed to go to gyms when needed – i.e. – camps, clinics, maternity leaves, vacations, illnesses, etc.  These coaches must be flexible in their coaching styles to allow them to coach in many different places with different levels of gymnasts.  Flying High Enterprises goal is to hand pick these coaches based on their ability, style, and flexibility and then match the coach to the gym’s needs. 

In 2002 Flying High Enterprises expanded to include the sale of personal gymnastics equipment – i.e. - grips, tiger paws, balance boards, etc.  December of 2003 Flying High Enterprises continues to grow and expand beyond Region V by developing a website to provide the best and most complete information about the sport of gymnastics.
