How should I begin my training? Remember, whatever you gain from gymnastic training can be transferred to ALL other sports. (Balance, Coordination, Flexibility, Strength, Kinesthetic Awareness, Goal Setting, Confidence, etc. . . .) Your second question is much harder to answer. Kids and adults come in all shapes and sizes, some grow taller and bigger at an earlier age than others. Your genetic make-up contributes largely to your growth and rate of growth. The one thing that I will emphasize is that athletes (world-class or amateur) come in all different shapes and sizes. An example of two extremes would be Carly Patterson who is petite but very muscular and strong and Kerri Walsh (Pro Beach Volleyball) who is tall, slender, and muscular. Each has spent many years developing their body to do everything their sports demand. The one thing to remember is that these athletes live an active lifestyle that involves exercise, rest and proper nutrition. Proper nutrition cannot be emphasized enough - food is the fuel that makes the body go. Nutrition is an involved subject and is very complex for each individual. For good nutrition information please check out the following websites. (http://www.muscle-fitness.com and http://www.chrissare.com) Another option is to talk to a nutritionist. I hope I have answered your questions and I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of gymnastics.
