1. Make sure your legs are going up and over your head, particularly the 2nd leg. Don’t pike! The cartwheel on the beam should be the same as the cartwheel on the floor.
2. Turn your hips ¼ of the way – halfway through the trick.
3. Your body (hips) should face the beam when you land. This is called “closed hips”. – Your body should finish like the handstand (English) step down would land.
4. Finish with your arms up by your ears and with your front leg bent in a lunge position.
Drills
1. Start with your arms over your head and step into a lunge, placing your hands on the floor with your back leg going up into the air (lever). Your leg, back and arms should make a straight line from your toes of your back leg to your fingers on the floor. Then bring your body up while keeping your arms over your head. Take another step forward and repeat with the other leg forward. Make sure you keep you front foot flat on the floor and keep your hips closed all the way through the drill.
2. The above drill can be done on the floor beam.
3. Lots of cartwheels on the floor beam.
4. Cartwheels on a line on the floor.
